Hand Printed Fabric Collection

There is an air of excitement as the new fabric collection by Vanessa Arbuthnott is launched. Vanessa has always had a strong affection towards hand block printing and hand screen printing. In fact, she used these methods to create her very first fabrics, over 20 years ago! The new collection will differ from those that have gone before. It is authentic and original in equal measures, and she hopes that the collection will appeal to anyone who appreciates a handcrafted and more individual ‘look’. The fabrics used in the new collection have an unsophisticated edge - this is a feature that is exceptionally beautiful. An extensive amount of precision and patience led to the creation of the new, unique items. The distinctive marks and textures, created by the blocks, really stand out – they are entirely different to the usual smooth finish achieved when using conventional mechanically printed fabrics. This aspect is very charming - small imperfections and lines that are not always 100% dead straight, give the items an edge, and contribute to their overall uniqueness. This is by no means a cost saving initiative, the fabrics, produced in India and England actually cost more to produce by hand, than by machine.

The collection features three different designs - an enchanting butterfly, a traditional paisley fertility symbol, and a simple ticking stripe. All of these designs are available in both positive and negative forms. The hand printed fabric designs can be mixed and matched to great effect and they will look beautiful in any traditional English home.
