Voile curtains are very lightweight and can be almost transparent. They are made from a net curtain fabric that is derived from cotton, and high grade voile curtain fabric is made from highly twisted yarns. It drapes and gathers very well, as natural fabrics tend to do.

When used by themselves, sheer voiles are perfect to let in natural light for those areas that need some much privacy. But voile fabrics become really versatile when you use them behind heavier curtains in areas that need privacy during daylight hours and again after dark when there is light in the areas that would otherwise draw attention. However, for this system you will need a double curtain rod, or you can hang the sheer curtain fabrics from a rod mounted above the window or a tension rod that fits in the window frame itself, and hang the heavier curtains on a curtain track.
The nature of the net curtain fabrics that make up your sheers means that it is especially helpful when you need to brighten a room. Even when gathered together, the lighter curtain colours let in more light. By simply stretching out the fabric to minimise the gathering, you can brighten up a whole room. Sheer curtains are ideal for indoor plants because the voile protects them from direct sunlight yet provides enough light to allow them to grow.
So why use sheer curtains not the usual net fabric behind block-out curtains? Well, net curtains are usually white or off-white, whereas the voile curtain fabrics we stock come in a beautiful range of colours which can be blended with an extensive choice of fabrics and patterns.
There is yet another way that voile curtain fabrics have the edge over sheer net curtains, voile lends itself beautifully to being scalloped to allow light in to a room without compromising privacy at all during the day.
By varying the degree of thickness of sheer fabric, you can play with, adjust and control how much light comes into your rooms. For example, increasing the width of the curtain and gathering the folds closer together blocks out excess sunlight and protects the fabrics of indoor furniture and paintings. Another solution for privacy is to choose your voile curtains in a darker colour to reduce the transparency.
Maintenance of the voile curtain fabric is easy. The tight weave and the singeing of the yarn in voile curtain fabrics edges give the fabric a hard finish making it ideal for machine washing.
The amazing versatility of sheer fabrics allow you to achieve a unique result if you match it, or contrast it, to complement the furnishings in your rooms. You don't need to go for a bland look with your choice of sheer curtain fabrics, all you need to do is to remember the power and beauty of voile.
