Marimekko Fabric Collection

Bright, colourful designs, many based on flora and animals, is the idea behind Marimekko’s fabrics. Company founder Armi Ratia originally began her design career in clothing in 1951 before crossing over into fabrics and home wares. Although the ‘Mari’ part of her company brand is a play on her name, the second half ‘mekko’ is Finnish for ‘dress.’ Today there are 11 designers who create for Marimekko, bringing their own unique focus and splashes of colour to the company fabrics and materials which can be found worldwide and in a range of products from bags and scarves to cushions and even storage jars.
